STYLSS Suicide Pact X

STYLSS Suicide Pact TenSTYLSS (Stop Taking Your Life So Seriously) has done it again with the tenth edition of their Suicide Pact compilations. As usual, the entire compilation is filled with all different genres of music and they’re all gold, making it difficult to only pick out just a few of my favorites.

Before we continue, go ahead and hop on over to the STYLSS bandcamp and take advantage of the limited free download where you can also buy a super limited, hand numbered cassette of the release for your physical library. You can additionally keep up with STYLSS on twitter and facebook to stay posted with their updates.

Back Blocks immediately went into my club crate. The track starts out hyped with hand claps and “drop it” vocals that are joined by a banging bass. DVNNY $ETH is featured on the tune and lays down some solid verses over Stewart Villian’s thumping production. Hit the ground!

TAPES slows it down and gets vibey with this next tune. Caitlyn begins with a dreamy juke feel with twinkling arppegios and dreamy synths, however about a minute in, it slows down into a half-time groove-machine with a thick bassline and fat pads.

Wokr flips the direction with After Work Techno towards the dance end of the spectrum with breakbeats and filtered synths that builds into an unexpectedly dirty drop that will even the most stubborn of dancers shake their rump.

The last song on the compilation seems to have been written for it. Cold Water is a hauntingly beautiful work with piano, strings, and intricately reversed and worked vocals all over the backing of outside noises and bird chirps that occur in rhythm. Definitely a new favorite by Choongum, and the genre “#Emotional” is quite appropriate.
